Cult Designer Rick Owens and two looks from Fall 2008

One of my favorite designers, Rick Owens, is busting out a line of backpacks and a unisex raincoat for Eastpak. This collaboration will probably be the only way that I can attain one of his pieces; Owens is known for his masterful use of leathers and skins to make sharply-tailored and truly amazing jackets, sweaters and pants. He is a designer amongst those who do not “brand” themselves with obvious swooshes, checks, stripes or interlocking letters. To know Owens is to recognize a superior cut, a high armhole, tucks, twists, and, usually, loads of zippers or fringe. While some people fantasize about meeting their idolized rock hero, I think Owens is that person for me; in another life, he was bigger than The Stones. He’s got that vibe and you could take on any arena, a million nights of touring, and that rough-and-tumble lifestyle. The biggest allure his designs have to me is that they walk the line between messy/dressy and who’s to say you didn’t comb your hair when you’re rockin’ one of his bad-ass looks?  I just wish those backpacks came out when I used ’em. What about a hiking trip, anyone?

The newest  jams added today are Santogold’s “Unstoppable” Featuring Lil Wayne & Drake” and  “Shuv It” Featuring Three 6 Mafia & Project Pat. Over the weekend I added Guns ‘n Bombs, Heaps Decent, Girls, Amazing Baby, Kid Cudi, along with the Bon Iver EP. I’m trying to get the music player up to speed, so chill.
