It's 1221

sometimes, you gotta start from scratch

While you were sleeping, I started this bad boy. I have so much that I wish to share about my semi-poetic musings, fashion, music and writing and so much that I wish readers to share as we build a community. Why a blog and why now, Areti? Good question. Yes, I do want to be in magazines (or what is left of them) but I feel such creativity coming from me that I could not wait for my own magazine. 12:21 is my favorite time, I love the number 1221 because it is a palindrome and it was my first pick for a title.

My life project is summarized into this handy quote that I have kept since my sophomore year of high school, which was about seven years ago:

For the new year.–I still live, I still think: I still have to live, for I still have to think. Sum, ergo cogito: cogito, ergo sum. Today everybody permits himself the expression of his wish and his dearest thought; hence I , too, shall say what it is that I wish from myself today, and what was the first thought to run across my heart this year–what thought shall be for me the reason, warranty, and sweetness of my life henceforth. I want to learn more and more to see as beautiful what is necessary in things; then I shall be one of those who make things beautiful. Amor Fati: let that be my love henceforth! I do not want to wage war against what is ugly. I do not want to accuse; I do not even want to accuse those who accuse. Looking away shall be my only negation. And all in all and on the whole: some day I wish to be only a Yes-sayer. (Nietzsche, The Gay Science, 276).

Mhmm. Well said. So I just want to make things beautiful. Even though it may feel like we live in a sea of ugliness, each day, each one of us can make or do or say something that is positive. 2008, as it winds down, was a whirlwind for me with major highs and debilitating lows. I spent so much of the past six months wanting to break down many of the things I’ve worked towards. But that is not me and I hope this helps with my growing and healing process as I get back on-track with my ambitions.

This blog is my baby, one day maybe it will become a full-scale digital magazine and community. FOR THE PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE–I’ll tell you more about that as it unfolds.
